Why crushed stone?
Crushed stone is quarried limestone or dolomite broken down in crushers and screened to size. Its sharp, angular faces lock together when compacted — that is what makes it the right choice for anything that carries weight: driveways, parking pads, slab bases and roads. Rounded rock rolls under load; crushed stone stays put.
Base vs. clean stone
- Dense-graded (DGA, crusher run, "QP") includes the stone dust. It packs into a hard, almost concrete-like base.
- Clean / washed stone (¾", 1½", #57) has the fines removed. Water drains straight through — ideal for French drains, dry wells and septic fields.
A long-lasting driveway usually uses both: a DGA base and a clean stone top.

1½" DGA (Crusher Run / QP)
Dense graded aggregate, also called "quarry process". Compacts hard — base for pavers, asphalt driveways, walkways, roads and retaining walls.
1½" Stone
Clean stone for drainage, septic systems, dry wells and road base.
2½" Stone
Large clean stone for drainage, dry wells, road base, septic systems and job-site construction entrances.
#411 Limestone
#4 stone blended with fines — a tough, well-draining driveway and parking base.

Crushed Stone Delivery FAQ
What is crusher run?
Crusher run (DGA, road base, "QP") is crushed stone mixed with stone dust. When compacted it forms a hard base for driveways, pads and roads.
Is crushed stone better than gravel for a driveway?
For the base, yes — angular crushed stone compacts and does not roll. Many customers top it with #57 or driveway gravel for a clean finish.
How deep should a crushed stone base be?
4–6" for residential driveways and walkways, 6–8" for heavy trucks or equipment.
What is the difference between #57 and ¾" stone?
They overlap in size. #57 is a spec gradation of roughly ¾"–1"; "¾ stone" is a common name for clean stone around that size. Either works for drainage and driveway tops.
